MAYOR JOINS THE
JUNIORS
After seeing the Tiverton Junior Operatic Club performing their sell out High School Musical show in Tiverton in February, the Mayor of Tiverton, Kevin Wilson, promised to visit the club to see what actually goes on when the members are not on stage. The Mayor watched part of the normal Thursday night meeting in which the Club were taking part in a theatre workshop activity, followed by rehearsing songs for their forthcoming “Showcase Concert” which is to take place at the New Hall, Tiverton on July 11th. Addressing the youngsters during a break in the workshop, the Mayor told the Club that he had been impressed with High School Musical and was also impressed with the way the youngsters were willing to take part in exercises which required them to perform in front of each other. He commented that he understood the nervousness that must be overcome when speaking in front of an audience. He asked the youngsters what it was they enjoyed about coming to the Club and a variety of answers were given, including, making new friends, gaining confidence and the feeling of being in one big (extended) family. Not to be outdone,
the Mayor joined the Club for a big group photo to commemorate the visit.

| 19th Feb 2007 |
So it's finally here -
tonight sees the first of our seven performances of 'Around The World In
Eighty Days'. It's sure to be a hugely enjoyable show for audiences and
actors alike.
Good luck to everyone involved in the show and to those who have put in so much hard work already! |
| 12th Feb 2007 |
Rehearsals have been
called for every night this week. They will take place, as usual,
between 7-9. All of our remaining rehearsals will be at the New Hall on
Barrington Street. Click
here for a map!
And remember, 7 DAYS UNTIL WE OPEN!!! |
| 7th Feb 2007 | Tomorrow night's rehearsal is dialogue only. Even if you have just one line in the show, you need to come! If you don't have any lines, have a relaxing evening before the real hard work begins! |
| 27th Jan 2007 |
All speaking
characters need to have learnt their lines by Sunday 4th February.
You can always learn lines at rehearsals when you're not on stage, so there
are no excuses after next Sunday!
Less than 4 weeks to go... |
| 27th Jan 2007 | Members from the TJOC will be handing out fliers in town to advertise the show on Saturday 3rd and Saturday 10th February between 10:00 and 12:00. |
| 14th Jan 2007 |
Draw prizes are
required for the week of the show, so we would be very grateful if members
could bring along any suitable items to be included in the draw. Just give
your draw prize to a committee member at a rehearsal - we need enough prizes
for 7 performances, so we really need every member's help here!
5 weeks until opening night... |
| 5th Jan 2007 | This Sunday is the first run-through of Act 1, so if you cannot attend the rehearsal, make sure you tell a committee member! Remember, it's less than 7 weeks until the opening night... |
| 14th Dec 2006 |
Rehearsals have now
finished for the winter holidays (put your feet up for a few weeks!), but we
restart on Thursday 4th January - check the rehearsal
schedule if you're not sure whether you're needed or not.
Keep a close eye on the website, as it is likely to be updated in the coming weeks. The club would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! |
| 26th Nov 2006 |
As announced at
today's rehearsal, some changes have been made to the schedule:
1) Thursday 30th November (7-9) at St. Andrews - Concierge/ Passepartout/ Fogg/ Aouda (Act1 Sc. 8). Also, rehearsal for Katie + Katie's Girls (7-8) at Andrew's house. 2) Sunday 3rd December (2-5) at the Memorial Hall, Angel Hill (directions here) - Cast required as scheduled. 3) Thursday 7th December (7-9) at St. Andrews - Passepartout/ Katie/ Katie's Girls/ Staff of the Moulin Rose. |
| 25th Nov 2006 | Tomorrow, all cast are called from 2:30 - 5:00. If you are still not sure which parts you have been allocated, look at the cast list at a rehearsal, and check your rehearsal schedule carefully. |
| 18th Nov 2006 | Music rehearsals have finished (for the time being), so now we begin 'blocking' the show. Remember, next Thursday is a principal rehearsal only, so chorus members are not needed. For the dates when the chorus are needed, check out the rehearsal schedule by following the links at the top or bottom of the page, or by clicking here. |
| 9th Nov 2006 | The deadline for the poster competition has been extended until next Thursday (16th November). Remember, there is a prize for the winning entry, as well as seeing your design around Tiverton and used for the promotion of the show. (Entries on A4 paper please, you don’t need to put any words on it, and remember; the simple designs usually work best!) |
| 5th Nov 2006 | This evening, members of the TJOC were kindly invited to the TAOS bonfire party, where they enjoyed a bonfire, fireworks and hot food. Thanks to the TAOS for their hospitality, the members all enjoyed the evening. |
| 1st Nov 2006 | Rehearsals after half term restart on tomorrow (Thursday 2nd November). There's not long to go before we begin setting the show, so we need full concentration at rehearsals so that we can make ATWIED a really good show! |
| 28th Oct 2006 | Site updated with new links added (Archives, Rehearsal Schedule and Photos). Watch this space for more pictures and newspaper cuttings from past shows and social events. If you have any photos which you would like included on the website, speak to a committee member at a rehearsal or e-mail tjocmail@aol.com. |
| 28th Oct 2006 | The rehearsal schedule for ATWIED is now available online. Just follow the links at the top or bottom of the page. The schedule will also be available at rehearsals in the near future. |
| 19th Oct 2006 | The King & I will be showing in Barnstaple at the end of November. Kev Behan is the Director. We would like to know if anyone is interested in going to see the show on the Friday 24th November. If enough people want to go, the club will look into running a social trip to see it. If you are interested in going to see the show, please tell one of the committee members at any Thursday rehearsal before 9th November. Or, you can e-mail us at tjocmail@aol.com! |
| 19th Oct 2006 | We need your suggestions for the next show. There will be a form at rehearsals where you will be able to write down any shows which you would like to perform, or which you think that the club should do in 2008. Alternatively, you can e-mail us at tjocmail@aol.com. So get your thinking caps on! |
| 19th Oct 2006 | The poster competition has now been announced. The winning entry may be used on the actual posters and programme cover for the show. Entries should be handed to any of the committee members by Thursday 9th November, and will be judged at the committee meeting on Monday 13th November. Entries on A4 paper please, you don’t need to put any words on it, and remember; the simple designs usually work best! |
| 12th Oct 2006 | The cast list has now been finalised and will be displayed at rehearsals. Congratulations to all of those who have been given parts, and good luck. Remember that chorus work is just as important as principal parts, so those who haven't been allocated roles in the production will still have plenty to do, and will be playing one of the most important parts in the show! |
| 24th Sept 2006 | Auditions took place this afternoon. The auditioning committee deliberated long and hard before deciding whom should take which the lead roles in our forthcoming production. They were very impressed by all of the auditionees, and would like to congratulate everyone who conquered their nerves this afternoon. |
| 7th Sept 2006 | Rehearsals started this evening with an impressive turnout of 41, including 12 boys! Andrew Curtis, our Musical Director, soon had us practicing our audition songs. |
|
28th June 2006 |
The Juniors visited Torquay to watch Torquay Operatic & Dramatic Society's production of 'Summer Holiday'. The trip was enjoyed by all, and it is assured that more theatre visits will be arranged in the future. |
| 10th June 2006 | TJOC members were kindly invited to a barbeque out in Chettiscombe, and to watch England's first World Cup match against Paraguay. The hospitality, along with the food, was excellent and much-appreciated, although most ended up going home slightly wetter than when they came, following an unpredicted water-fight! |
| 8th May 2006 | 'Around The World In Eighty Days' has been chosen as the TJOC's 28th production. The club has never performed the show, based on the Jules Verne classic novel, before (it was only written in 2000). The Junior members were given the opportunity to vote on their preferred show, from a shortlist including 'Pirates Of Penzance', 'Blitz' and 'ATWIED'. |
| 10th April 2006 | Kev Behan has agreed to direct 2007's production. This will be the fourth time he has worked with the TJOC, as well as working in his home town with the Barnstaple Young Generation. Andrew Curtis will be the Musical Director, and Sue Wightmore will take the role of the choreographer, completing an identical line-up to last year's show! |
