Around The World In Eighty Days

2007

English nobleman Phileas Fogg, a very strict and emotionless man, gets wound up in a betat his gentlemen's club: he has to prove that it is possible to travel around the whole world in only 80 days. Together with his new manservant Passepartout, who expected a different first day at work, he takes off instantly to Paris, where they miss the train to Marseilles. A train guard offers to sell them his hot air balloon, which carries them onto Spain, down to Italy and over to Greece. An ominous Mr. Fix crosses their path more and more, constantly trying to hinder their progress and to slow them down, which will enable him to win his wager against them.

In the deep jungles of India, Fogg and Passepartout rescue the beautiful Princess Aouda, who is to be burnt alive at the side of her dead husband. In Hong Kong, Passepartout meets drugs in an involuntary manner and in the United States, the wild, wild west takes its toll. All the time, Mr. Fogg has his usual timetable and meal schedule running at normal pace.

The journey comes to a dramatic end, returning to England, after sailing the high seas in the company of a society spinster, Miss Fotherington. Mr. Fogg considers that the wager is finally lost, but it appears he has not taken into account the sciences of time, so when the real time of day is heralded by Christmas bells, all becomes clear.

As the story ends we discover that it is not what he has lost that amazes all those around him, it is what he has gained...his emotions, and a wife!
